# Building a subscription data and publishing product

Founder-built product · Devekko

Published October 27, 2026. Client and product names omitted.

A founder-built civic data and publishing platform brought content, permissions, subscription payments, and infrastructure into one product. Nicholas Roberts's résumé records the work under his Devekko founder role; the product name is omitted here.

## The product scope

The platform covered 48,000 politicians. That figure describes the subject coverage of the data product. It does not describe paying customers, registered users, or monthly active users.

The résumé identifies subscription payments, permissions, and self-hosted infrastructure as part of the build. These are the capabilities needed to publish information, govern access, and support a subscription product.

## The responsibility

Nicholas led digital and data strategy and full-stack development. The work joined the information model and publishing experience with payment, access, and operating infrastructure.

This case describes a founder's responsibility across several connected parts of a product. The build is recorded under the Devekko founder role.

## What is established

The source reports a built platform and its functional scope. It does not provide subscriber revenue, activation, retention, profitability, or a controlled test of demand. Those outcomes are not implied by the coverage count or by the presence of subscription payments.

## What this experience brings to a product brief

A subscription publishing product needs decisions about its audience, information, access, billing, and ongoing operation. The relevant experience connects those decisions with implementation.

For a new product, Devekko would agree the intended customer task, first-release boundary, and measures of use before extending the scope. The [Product Development and Management service](/services/product-development-and-management) provides a way to define and deliver that work.
